Job scams are rising, Beware!

Job scams are rising, Beware!

It is a common case of cheating with a job to offer, take the deposit money and cheat people. Lucrative pay is offered by IT based company ‘Corporate Connection’. The Company released an advertisement in various newspapers to cheat the people assuring them of lucrative jobs. The Company even organised an exhibition at different parts of the country to give a boost to the morale of the youth. 125 youth responded to the advertisement and paid handsome amounts of money to get a job.
The company made lakh of rupees and kept the people in the dark. To lure them further, they were offered Rs1, 000 per day and the people who paid the amount had to assemble at Mafco market, Sanpada / Vashi stations.
While going through Sanpada railway station, I saw people waiting with their baggages outside and I smelt something fishy. My son, remarked that it appears that some people have been cheated like in a Tamil film Vettri Kodi. The next day I saw in many news dailies reporting the cheating incident.
Despite warnings, people are lured and cheated in this country. Hard earned money is invested in such employment schemes.
Racketeers dupe job seekers as the unemployment rate is high. People wait to leave the city to get their jobs but their fate is already decided as the company then vanishes. This is on a rise in the satellite city. And they realise that there was no job interview scheduled much later.
What a way to lose hard earned money? People should be smarter next time and not fall prey to such scams.

investors from different walks of life including doctors, lawyers and
journalists, to the tune of Rs.700 crore to Rs.1,000 crore. Nearly a year
after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials in Chennai had sent a
proposal to the State Government for attaching the company’s seized
properties including cash from frozen bank accounts, the Home
Department has issued an ad-interim order attaching the same.

City Limouzines assets attached

COIMBATORE: There is finally some hope for thousands of depositors
across the country including Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore,
Hyderabad and Mumbai who lost their hard earned money to the
fraudulent City Limouzines India Ltd in 2009 as its properties have
been attached in Chennai.

The company had by a conservative estimate defrauded around 35,000
investors from different walks of life including doctors, lawyers and
journalists, to the tune of `700 crore to `1,000 crore. Nearly a year
after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials in Chennai had sent a
proposal to the State Government for attaching the company’s seized
properties including cash from frozen bank accounts, the Home
Department has issued an ad-interim order attaching the same.

As per the Home Department order issued recently, movable properties
and liquid cash worth `74.98 crore have been attached. The sum
includes `10.81 crore deposits in current accounts maintained in 11
banks, unpaid demand drafts to the tune of `64 crore drawn on 25
banks, and vehicles worth `3.61 lakh. Some of these properties were
held by its sister companies including City Realcom Ltd and Ryewood
Retreat Motels Pvt Ltd. City Limouzines attracted deposits from well
educated persons through a novel modus operandi. We were informed that
if we deposited a minimum of Rs 1.39 lakh, the money would be invested
in purchasing cars in our name and rented out by the company. Out of
the profits, we were promised a monthly return of Rs 7,775 for a
period of five years,” says S Surender, a resident of R S Puram in
Coimbatore.

The company issued post-dated cheques to investors, which were
honoured only for a few months. “The che- ques started bouncing from
late 2009 and the staff began dodging us ever since.”

Strangely, the Mumbai-based company, which had offices at several
cities, had even been the official sponsor of India Women Hockey team
from 2006 to 2009. Following complaints in multiple cities, the police
in Mumbai had arrested its owners Masood Sayyed Jamadar and Geetha
Umar Razakki. Last month, the Bombay High Court had granted bail to
Masood.

“In TN, the company operated under 15 different names including City
Limouzines, City Hospitalities, City Money, City Airlines Pvt Ltd,
Bharat Ratna Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar Pratisthan and City Cine Vision,”
a police officer said.

Gold chain theft on local trains was a `1.35cr business in 2011

With gold prices touching Rs29,000 per 10gm, bullion traders aren’t the only ones on a bull run. Pickpockets and mobile phone thieves are switching to the more lucrative business of chain-snatching, if the Mumbai railway police data on commuter complaints in the past one year is anything to go by.
Confirming a steady rise in complaints, an official of the CST railway police revealed that in 2010, gold chains worth over Rs91 lakh were stolen or snatched on local trains. This figure jumped to Rs1.35 crore in 2011.
A total of 445 cases of chain-snatching were registered in 2011 with a detection rate of nearly 21%. In comparison, only 416 cases were registered in 2010 but the detection rate was a low 8%.
Pick-pocketing and mobile phone theft have ceased to attract petty criminals primarily for two reasons: commuters have started carrying credit and debit cards instead of cash, and most mobile phones can now be traced easily with the handset’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.
Deputy commissioner of police GL Bhandare of the Mumbai railway police said, “Patrolling has been intensified in the ladies compartments of local trains as well as on railway station premises to nab chain-snatchers.”

update city limouzine fraud

want to say it clearly ,Whether he be One year inside jail or 20 Years inside Jail. What it is going to serve your (Investors) any Purpose. I think No. He has no problem in contesting these criminal cases. he has sufficient means to spend money for contesting Criminal cases.

If Investors wants some money back. They have to contest the case for winding up of City Realcom Ltd. Now there is no option left for Investors. Except winding up of the Company. Again I will say file the cases for winding of Realcom Ltd through City Welfare Associations. If you can move forward. As an Investor I am ready to give my contribution for the winding up case, if Investors are ready. Hire any Good Company Advocate at High Court of Bombay and file case for winding up for City Realcom. But through Associations not Individually. If any body wants to file individually he can file the case.

Though Number of time I have written on this Winding up .

Only and Only procedure left for Investors is winding up. if something Investors wants back. Rest Choice of Investors.

===========
Could you write in brief what's involved in the process of filing for the winding up of a company? Here's what I think everyone would want to hear:
- What is the procedure for winding up of a company? Can it only be done in Mumbai?
- What would be the costs involved, including the lawyer's fee and/or any other related expenses?
- How much time would it probably take for winding up and re-payment to the investors?
- Would a physical attendance be necessary of the investors in court?
- If/when the company "winds up", would everyone get the money or only the people involved in that particular "winding up case"?

Most investors are people who wanted to make quick pain-free money (let's accept it!) so you cannot expect them to contribute anything other than money.   ;-)  I think I'd be willing to chip in upto 10% of my initial investing amount in order to get the rest back (which makes most sense statistically).

City Limo chief will spend a year in jail: Enforcement Directorate

City Limo chief will spend a year in jail: Enforcement Directorate

MUMBAI: S M Masood, chairman of City Limouzines, will remain in jail for a year over foreign exchange violations, officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) told TOI. He has also been accused of duping thousands of small-time investors who put in their savings in his investment schemes that offered 48% returns.

ED, which investigates foreign exchange violations, had probed the company's alleged violations in connection with Rs 300-crore diamond exports to Dubai. Based on these investigations, over a month ago, the Union government detained him under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA). The Act is invoked against those who indulge in smuggling.
Masood will be lodged at Central Jail in Jaipur. ED officials said scrutiny of documents revealed that the buyer in Dubai and the party who has remitted the amount were different. The exports were effected in 2008 and the ED probe revealed that the suppliers of diamonds, as claimed by the company, denied any such transaction. Masood challenged the COFEPOSA order in the Delhi high court but it was dismissed, an ED official said.
Investors across the country have been duped by City Limouzines and its sister concern, City Realcom, promising huge returns on their investments. Investors were promised a return of 48% but in mid-2009, the cheques issued by the company started bouncing leading to panic among investors. Through loans and money collected from investors, the company bought vehicles and gave them on hire. According to the scheme, the investors were offered monthly returns for five years and at the end of the period, the vehicles were given to them.-TNN

Mumbai is number one for banking fraud in country City lost Rs.1,882 crore in fraud cases in 5 years. Amount recovered: Rs.63 crore

Mumbai is number one for banking fraud in country

City lost Rs.1,882 crore in fraud cases in 5 years. Amount recovered: Rs.63 crore

http://cdn.epaper.dnaindia.com/EpaperImages//mumbai//08012012//d94474.jpg

Mumbai tops the list of cities with the highest number of frauds reported by banks, with the money involved totalling Rs400 per year for the past five years.
While for the financial year 2010-11, banks in Mumbai reported 787 fraud cases involving Rs 1,049 crore, the tally for the national capital was 335, with the net amount lost being Rs269 crore, according to the documents obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Interestingly, the total number of banking frauds reported in Mumbai every year is more than those of Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore taken together. While a five year average figure for Mumbai is about 800 cases, the number for other cities is approximately 200.
As per the report, of the 4,099 cases registered in Mumbai since 2006, only 564 cases (those where the amount involved is above Rs1 lakh) have been closed.
The city lost Rs1,882 crore over these five years, of which only Rs63 crore has been recovered, reveals the RTI response. Experts blame the low recovery rate on the lack of know-how in detecting and preventing frauds in the era of internet and mobile banking.
Firstly, the banks do not even seem to have the required classification of internet-related frauds. According to the RBI, “there is no distinct category of ‘Phishing Complaints’’, and as such no separate data/information is classified/compiled in this regard.” But phishing is a common method of online identity theft where information such as usernames, password and other bank details are acquired.
According to the internet banking guidelines issued by the RBI in 2001, banks need to assess the risks arising out of phishing, consider them as ‘operational risk’ and cover it with insurance. “Either they are ignoring the RBI mandate or are hiding the information,” said NA Vijayashankar, cyber law
expert.
Banks evade responsibility
DNA also has found out that bank managements’ reluctance to own up to such frauds is also a factor causing a pile-up of banking fraud cases, and consequently, a low recovery rate. Sources in the banking industry confirm that banks do not follow up fraud cases and pass the buck to the customers despite RBI guidelines directing banks to take complete responsibility.
A former top official of Indian Overseas Bank said that banks avoid owning up to such cases out of fear that it will damage their reputation, with a resultant loss of customer base. “Most of the time banks pass the responsibility of recovering the money to the customers themselves,” he said.
There are several cases where banks have refused to take any responsibility for banking fraud. Gujarat Petrosynthese Ltd, a Mumbai-based company lost Rs.39, 00,550/ from its account with Axis Bank, Bangalore, on 20th June 2011 to hackers. “The police are investigating. But the banking sector has not been sympathetic,” said Urmi N Prasad, executive director with Gujarat Petrosynthese Ltd.
Similarly, Pramod B Bauskar from Mumbai lost Rs 1,97,000 from ICICI bank to an internet fraud in mid-2011. “Bank officials rejected my plea outright, saying it was my fault and the bank will not do anything about it,” said Bauskar.
Some Cases Not Registered
Apart from the registered cases where the recovery rate has been pathetic, many fraud cases are not even registered. Several bankers told DNA that most internet banking frauds cases at the customer level itself, as banks bully the customers into believing that they themselves are responsible.

City Limouzine fraud - Masood has been released.

Masood has been released. The justice system in this country just took to a new low. Its amazing how and what corruption can do in this country.
===========

Now its all over for us Investors.
Justice never prevails in this Country.
We all Investors are the looser finally.

=========

His passport must have been confiscated to prevent him from leaving
the country, right? Or has he been levied of all charges?
=============
True! There have been instances which we can count on our fingertips when justice has been delivered in interest of the common man. Masood's release is yet another example of what wonders Vitamin M (money) can do!

When Masood had support of eminent politicians like Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the spokesperson of Congress, his release was only a matter of time. Just goes to show how the public servants that we elect transition into dictators. These things will prevail in this country till the time the larger masses realize what our elected representatives are doing! While the politicians keep getting richer the common people keep losing money.

Such a sorry state of affairs.
=============
If you think leaving this country is not possible without passport then you are mistaken. Infact its easier to leave this country without passport.
================
What Masood is released very sad to here it .....Here in Hyderabad the ccs department is filing the charge sheet in the court may be by this month end hopefully he has to be present .....

Vadant Jee  there is no other chance/way to get our money back ..........
====================
Must have given hefty donations through his council, JHOOTE KA BOOL BALA, SACCHE KA MU KALA
ab sab  hari kirtan karo,
 here I remember a song from the film DADDY, the stanza says,
=====================
 Masood will soon disappear & will leave the Country soon guys.
 ====================
 Then what will be our hopes of getting back our Money...
===================
 Shri Vedantji and other friends,

We have invested our hard earned and life saving money in this Company.  Some of the leaders like Vedantji, Puri and others should take immediate initiative in talking to that Masood in getting back our money.
===========
I agree that it is our hard earned money but it is our greediness which led to loss of money. More we chase behind this money , we will loose even more.
 ===============
 Dear Investors
 Some investors and associations are behind only Criminal cases and
settling their money under table. Nobody is bothered for Investors and
other options of winding up of Company. If this goes like this I am
sure everything will be lost. But People are behind only Criminal
cases one over another. Masood should not come out. Because their
Associations are collecting money from association members for cases
from one case to another. Why these associations have not filed any
case for winding up of the Company. Because these People who talk much
more by sitting in their home. Only happy to keep the Directors inside
jail. they are not bothered for your money or my money they are
settling their money under table and withdrawing cases. See How many
F.I.R were filed at Mumbai and see How many pending now , why some
investors withdraw their F.I.R.. I am no one to comment on this. Why
some investors File affidavits before Supreme Court in One case for
releasing money for City Limouzines Investors . If released also than
what will be left for Realcom investors , Is their seprate property
for realcom, because who filed affidavits they have been given offer
that their investment money 100% will be given back . It is your
choice. Because we are Indians, We do not have fighting spirit. Here
everybody is bothered for its own opportunity  Not for other Investors
and you calling them they are fighting for you. My these words will
pinch some Individuals. I am keeping away from this group myself now .
So please take your decisions forget or fight like Anna Hazare.
 =============
 Do you really think Masood will be even willing to talk to any investors? Given the cases investors registered against Masood & his companies, animosity about the group would be on the top of his mind for sure.

Having said that, I hope a solution works out in interest of the investors soon.
 ================
 What you say is no doubt correct.  the investors need your guidance and help being a leaned advocate.   Kindly advise what is the need of the hour.  What you expect us to do.  If you are willing to fight many of us are not only willing to fight along with you but also support you in which you ever fashion you want including spending money.  Lead need to be taken by you as you know the things better than many of us.  You also need to sacrifice lilke Anna Hazare.  If you are willing kindly let us know we shall try to follow what ever you decide.  Thanks.
 ================
 As i am also lost the money, i thought the group is created lots of hope in our mind and now only it is clearly know that it is matter of  Self interest to get their own investment and left us in lurch. there are always these type of people in our community, we have to forget our money and get involve ourself with Anna Hazare Ji for nation cause against corruption.
forget our money, no hope to get

ATM card not stolen, but cash withdrawn

ATM card not stolen, but cash withdrawn

Over the past three days, four cases have been reported with the Navi Mumbai cyber cell alleging that money is withdrawn from their account without the knowledge of the account holder. Sounds absurd but residents of Vashi and Sanpada are facing such incidents.
From Sanpada resident CS Bose’ bank account Rs 37,000 was withdrawn from the Canara Bank ATM at sector-1 in spite of him possessing the card at the time of the transaction. “I got a SMS alert saying that the transaction was made from centre at Vashi. It was midnight when the amount was withdrawn. Next day when I visited the bank, they said the money was withdrawn from the ATM centre. I was shocked as the ATM card was with me and not stolen,” Bose said. When he went to register a complaint with the Vashi police, he learnt that he was the fourth victim to this modus operandi.
The cyber cell officials suspect that the accused might have figured out an ATM centre which is not well equipped with security measures. Then, the accused might have installed a skimmer device where the card is inserted. The skimmer machine records the data of the ATM card inserted and makes a clone of it. However, this device does not save the password of the card. The accused might have probably put a camera on the ATM machine to record the password pin when the customer is typing it. Using the details from the skimmer device and the camera footage, the accused accesses account of any user and then withdraws money.
After cross checking the details of the four victims, it was found that all the four have used the same Canara Bank ATM centre at sector-1. A police officer from Navi Mumbai cyber cell said, “The mark indicates that the device was installed here. There was no security guard present at the ATM centre due to which the accused could conveniently install the device.”
Cyber cell officials suggest that if an ATM centre does not have a security guard or there is a suspicious looking machine attached to the opening where the card is inserted, the machine should not be used. Also, while typing the password, one should hide the process either by holding a hand above or covering the keys with a paper.
It is the first time that such a case has been reported in Navi Mumbai, confirmed the police. “We have figured out the ATM centre wherein the incident occurred but it can happen at any such centres. People should be alert and bank officials should assure security arrangement for the ATM centres. The main problem we face is the response from the bank. Even as we have asked the bank to send the CCTV footage of the transaction made, they have been delaying the process. We are investigating all the cases simultaneously,” a police officer from Navi Mumbai cyber cell informed.
