He cheated them of Rs1 cr; duped 20 others, promising flats from CM quota

The Bhoiwada police on Tuesday arrested a man for duping more than 121 youths to the tune of Rs1crore by promising them jobs in the sales tax department. He had also duped more than 20 people by promising them flats from the chief minister's 10% quota. The police said Manoj Shinde (38), a resident of Kalwa near Thane, has been booked for forgery and cheating. He was remanded in police custody.
According to inspector Sunil Kale, Shinde's flat worth Rs18 lakh at Titwala has been sealed and his savings bank account in ICICI Bank with deposits of over Rs6 lakh has been frozen.
Kale said Shinde was allegedly involved in nefarious activities since 2006. He used to meet jobless youths through his associates at various places in Mumbai posing as a top officer working in the Mantralaya. He usually wore white shirt and trouser and used to move in chauffeur-driven Lancer car, Kale said.
After collecting money ranging from Rs1-8 lakh from potential flat buyers, he used to give them forged allotment letters, Kale added.
